Seriously!?!? I mean seriously! What did I just read??????
This book gets major props for being very original and creative. This book sat on my currently reading list for quite some time..why???? Well since you asked, because it was weird. Initially I couldn’t figure out what I thought of this strange creepily atmospheric book. But then I decided to give it the old college try. The result, once I got past my initial reaction to this book, I could not put it down! This is a strange one folks – but strange in a really good creepy atmospheric way!
Speaking of atmosphere, I thought this was a nice touch. Roselock is a town with a dark history. The ghosts of the town come out at night to re-play the past evils of the town. The atmosphere is creepy and haunting. Thus, making the atmosphere a character in this book as well…the reason if you will that you do not leave the church at night….but enough about that..
“Sully’s gift is also my demise.”
Iona Faye’s fiance, Jack, has been murdered. She comes to a man living in a Church in Roselock by the name of Sully. Sully acts as a conduit between the living and the dead. His family has a long history in Roselock and Sully himself has a cursed life. All the men in his family die when they are 33 years, 3 months and 3 days old. Sully has just turned 33 years old and time is running out for him. Iona is having a hard time dealing with her fiance’s death. She wishes to speak to him one last time.
Sully notices that something is not quite right between Iona and Jack’s interactions. Even though he is dead, Jack seems to have some influence over Iona. Speaking of Iona, her family is concerned about her. She is wasting away before their eyes and she has distanced herself from them prior to Jack’s Murder. Sully also notices that Iona is not eating well and appears to be weak. Just what the heck is going on?????
The book’s blurb tells us that this is not a love story..that it is a story of possession. That it is but how and in what way?
I wont say much more about the plot but that there is definitely more going on than meets the eye. There are revelations and dark secrets which are revealed. People are not always as they seem or as they present themselves to be.
Initially I gave this book 3.5 stars but moved the rating up to a 4 as it was original and creative. I loved the use of atmosphere and I also loved the title which I initially thought was strange but as I read it became clear. Both characters are dealing with echos of the past and there is significance as to the number 3.
This book was creative all the way around. I am glad I kept with it as it was a pleasant surprise. This book has a little bit of everything: ghosts, death, lies, deceit, attraction, love, etc. Was I shocked by the ending? Yes and no. One thing did not come by surprise but one did. So kudos to the Author for that surprise. I found this book to be very well thought out and original. It is the perfect book to read in the fall when the nights seem long and Halloween is upon us!
I received a copy of this book from Keary Taylor and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
