Well, I wasn’t expecting all that. I have to admit, I really didn’t know too much about this book (No, I have not been living under a rock) I knew the premise of it but not the meat and potatoes of it. I had no idea that this book scanned over so many years (and family members) I can understand why this book was such a scandalous read when it was first published.
A book with not so unlikable characters doing so many terrible things. I think to truly appreciate this book, you have to be able to like a book with not so likable (detestable) characters. I don’t think there was one that I “liked” all the way through. There were parts when I liked a character and then that character would be so monstrous to another character and then nope, now I dislike you again. This is a book with characters you will love to hate. Heathcliff, anyone? I have to say he was my favorite. I loved to hate him. The things people do out of jealousy and a need for revenge.
I had a hard time getting into this book at first. I kept finding other things “to read” but then when I dedicated some time to this book, it drew me into its plot. I have to say that this book is like a journey through human nature: the good, the bad, the ugly. It also gave a good description of the class system in place at the time.
