Max is a 13-year-old pit bull who is telling his life’s story in this short story. Max chronicles his life from when he was a puppy who saw his siblings find forever homes and his Mother die after horrible treatment from a breeder, to when he was bought, freed and found his way to a forever home. Max had a rough start in life and along the way he was not always treated with kindness. He remained a “good” dog and found happiness in the end.

It is evident that the Author is a dog lover and that she wanted to show pit bulls in a positive light and how they can be loving pets. While reading this short story, I thought it was the perfect length for young readers. It is told in Max’s voice and does not contain big words or complex sentence structures. It also serves to educate the reader on various topics such as poor breeding conditions, mistreatment of animals, dog fighting and the stigma attached to certain breeds such as the Pitbull. The story also shows how love, kindness and proper treatment of dogs (animals)can have a positive impact on not only the animal but the entire family.

This short story is both sad and sweet with a happy ending.

I received a copy of this book from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
