I found this book to be a very well written and readable book about one man’s dysfunctional childhood and transformation to adulthood. This book is both depressing and inspiring at the same time. Raised by unmarried alcoholic parents, the author had a very dysfunctional childhood raised in bars and various family homes. He was a Parentified child often having to care for and collect his drunk parents at bars. I thought the Author did a very good job describing his family members to the reader as he told his story. We learned their strengths, their faults, their secrets, their triumphs, their failures, their deterioration and family dynamic. Like all of us they had their good parts and their bad parts. They were human, they were flawed, and their lives were tragic. I felt his Mother lived the most sad and tragic life but even though her tale is heartbreaking, she was wise, kind and instilled in her son a sense hard work. The inspiring part is how the Author was able to take everything that he had endured, survived and witnessed in his childhood and used it to improve his life. He did not wallow in self pity but thanked his parents for life lessons learned.
