This is a unique and thought provoking psychological/philosophical book that takes place in a bank during a robbery.

Ingrid is on a mission and wants to act before time runs out. It is evident from the beginning of the book that she is not physically well. She has decided to rob a bank and while going in, meets a man, Moses sitting on the steps and brings him inside with her. She has a gun and immediately acts by taking hostages and giving them nicknames based on what they do or her first impressions of them. Are the nicknames fair? Is she making unfair assumptions? What is her end game? What are her reasons for robbing the bank? Will her demands be met? Why does she have the demands she does?

The man she pulled inside with her, Moses, proves to be the one who takes control. Not with the gun, and not by force, but by being the voice of reason. He helps to keep people calm, lead discussions and often speaks with the hostage negotiators. The hostages themselves are an interesting group of people who appear to have nothing in common except that they happened to be inside the bank when Ingrid decided to make her stand. As the begin to have discussions, they learn about themselves, each other and realize how everyone, as earthlings, are connected to a large extent.

As I mentioned earlier in the review, this is a unique book which is quite different from what I typically read. It is thought provoking and insightful. Not that I don’t read thought provoking and insightful books, but this one delves deeper into human behavior and the characters discussion are quite deep. There is not a lot of action, the characters are in a confined space, so it is their conversations/discussions which really move the book along. The characters themselves represent society and society members. This is not a book that one can breeze through. It’s one to ponder and think about as one reads. If you want to do some deep thinking and look at human behavior in a new light, check this book out.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.
